Unlike many high school students, Erin's favorite subject was mathematics. In addition to her academic prowess, Erin was very involved in school athletics. She played on both the Lady Pirates JV and varsity basketball teams all four years as a guard and forward. She also volunteered throughout high school and was involved in community service work. For example, with Girl Scouts Erin prepared lunches for the homeless, and through school clubs, she helped organized and host a Christmas party for underprivileged kids. Erin is very proud to have achieved the Gold Award, the highest level in the Girl Scout organization.
Erin just finished her first year at University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA, where she is a pre-pharmacy major. After earning her undergraduate degree, Erin plans to get a doctorate in pharmacy to prepare for a career as a pharmacist.
When the State Pipe Trades Council Scholarship arrived in the mail, Erin and her parents sighed with relief. The extra funds will go directly towards her college tuition. In addition to the State Pipe Trades Council Scholarship, Erin received a Regent Scholarship from her university, as well as a scholarship from the San Jose Buddhist Church.
Erin's father, Dan, works for Siemens installing and repairing air conditioning units. He is a member of U.A. Local 38.
